Running Back Roundtable:
Thursday night we had an incredible Running Back Roundtable that's a must watch for any RB's Coach! And really with all the coaching philosophy that was discussed, it's probably valuable for any position coach to tune into. The Roundtable was led by Juwan Lewis (Alabama State) & featured Savon Huggins (Boston College), Nate Cole (Toledo), Ben Wilkerson (Arkansas Pine Bluff) & CJ Edwards. They covered these 5 main topics:
What is your Coaching Philosophy?
What defines your room?
Why is culture so important?
How do you keep your non-starters engaged?
What is your teaching progression?
How do you handle adversity in your room?

Matt Rhule's Rules are interesting:
FootballScoop's Zach Barnett broke down Matt Rhule's Rules that he outlined at a recent clinic. He says Matt "clearly believes the path to scoring more points than his opponents begins with his coaches investing more into their players than their opponents."
Clearly culture & team building can help a team improve on the field play & Rhule might be the biggest believer in college football. Zach also outlined Rhule's expectations for each position coach including a "a matrix and progression for position drills & a tape of all position drills to be compiled after spring ball."
OCN FBS Head Coach of the Year Watchlist:
Speaking of Matt Rhule, Wednesday we announced our FBS Coach of the Year Watchlist. Of course it has names like Matt Rhule, Kirby Smart, & Nick Saban. With this award, which will be voted on by our Members too, will not just be for the best team, but for the best coaching job during the '23 season. The watchlist includes names like Florida's Billy Napier, Texas State's GJ Kinne, Arizona State's Kenny Dillingham, & Purdue's Ryan Walters.
Here's the full Pre-Season Watchlist:
Why don’t more FCS head coaches get Power 5 jobs?
This was the question Stewart Mandel from the Athletic asked. And when you look at the results, it's a really good one to ask. Check this out:
"of the 20 lower-level head coaches hired from 2010 to ’19, less than a third (six) were fired within four years. Most of the others either succeeded and moved up or remain in the same job years later. Over that same span, 42 percent of all first-time head coaches hired by FBS programs were fired within four years."
We can all do basic math here, thats' a 10%+ higher success rate. Chris Klieman & Kansas State's Big 12 Championship being the most recent success story, but there are more than a few who've made a successful jump. Here's the full article:
Wide Receiver Roundtable:
WR Coaches, you won't want to miss this Roundtable Sunday night! We're talking all this WR Play with Charles Watkins (New Hampshire), BJ Johnson (Georgia Southern), AJ Hampton (VMI), Jordan Hogan (Colgate), & Mike Peters (SUNY Brockport).
